Remote Desktop Issues – Multi-site Business Network

The Situation

The organisation had no existing site to site networking infrastructure in place. This meant that staff at any site other than head office were using Remote Desktop to connect back to a server in the Head Office site which was slow, and didn’t provide a very good end user experience. This meant that staff weren’t able to be as productive when trying to get through their computer based work tasks, as the lack of a proper network was slowing them down.

The target

For staff to be able to use their company devices anywhere in Australia, whether they’re at one of the organisations sites, or at a local café. All technology should work just as well as it does within the head office. The organisation houses clients on most of these sites, and some of the clients are children. The organisation would like to be able to provide Wi-Fi to all clients on the sites, but needs to ensure that the Wi-Fi is filtered, and safe for children.

The action

I implemented a site to site VPN network between all sites, which was partnered with business grade internet connections to ensure reliability. The networking infrastructure selected also had the capability of doing content filtering (allowing children to use the Wi-Fi safely).

The result

Staff were able to seamlessly roam around between sites, and their devices would all automatically connect to the Wi-Fi, and all IT systems and services worked properly, just like in the Head Office.
